ACS Nano: Using adjustable white blood cell-based biomimetic nanoparticles to enhance inflammation targeting

Bionic nanoparticles can effectively mimic the behavior of cells or exosomes. For example, leukocyte-based biomimetic nanoparticles can take advantage of the natural tropism of leukocytes to achieve targeted delivery. However, regulating protein integration can affect the in vivo behavior of these nanoparticles, which in turn changes their efficacy. Francesca Taraballi and Assaf Zinger of Houston Methodist Hospital constructed a tunable white blood cell-based biomimetic nanoparticle and used it to achieve enhanced targeted therapy of inflammation.

 

Key points of this article:

(1) The study found that in two different animal models, when the ratio of protein to lipid was increased to the maximum 1:20 (w/w), the structural properties of the nanoparticles were still maintained, and the increased Protein content can effectively improve its targeting of inflamed endothelium.

(2) Experiments have prepared biomimetic nanoparticles through the combined use of microfluidics, bottom-up synthesis methods and controlled synthesis parameters, and proved that these nanoparticles can improve the therapeutic effect of inflammatory diseases through targeted nano-delivery.
